UEMS Meeting in Tunisia: Georgian Delegation Highlights
The latest meeting of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) was held in Tunis at the Thalasso Carthage Hotel. Notably, Tunisia is only the second African country with observer status to host an event of such significance.
Georgian Representation and Achievements
The Georgian delegation was represented across several sections, including Radiology, Urology, Thoracic Surgery, and Neurology(represented by M. Okudjava, N. Sainishvili, A. Chkhotua, D. Giorgadze, M. Sandler, K. Chakhava, and G. Chakhava).
During the meeting:
Archil Chkhotua, Chairman of the Accreditation Board for the Urology Section, presented ETR in Urology, which was unanimously approved.
The plenary session once again highlighted the unprecedented success of the UEMS event previously held in Georgia.
Core Focus of the Assembly
As is customary, the meeting focused on the review and approval of European Training Requirements (ETR)for various medical specialties. Key agenda items included:
Postgraduate and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Reports from working groups regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence in medicine and surrounding the situation in Ukraine.
Strategic Initiatives
During the debates, George Chakhava, President of GAMS (Georgian Association of Medical Specialties), proposed an initiative to conduct training sessions on the adaptation and implementation of ETRs, taking into consideration regional specificities and requirements. He also emphasized the necessity of establishing joint working group/s between GAMS and UEMS
Future Outlook and Cultural Events
Plans were outlined for the Georgian delegation’s participation in the upcoming congress in Leuven, Belgium, where three oral presentations have already been accepted for public discussion.
To conclude the event, the organizers hosted participants at the Bardo National Museum and the historic Andalusian village of Sidi Bou Said, where a gala reception was held.
